1) How do we book a reservation?
Call us at 1-603-524-4000. If you have any questions, use the web form
to the right, or
email or call us.
2) What are the check in/out times?
Check in is 4:00 PM ET the day of your arrival. Check out is 10:00 AM ET the
day of your departure. Review Sample Lease
3) Why do you request a phone call instead of doing online booking?
We want to get to know the folks who stay in our homes a little. Our
houses are designed to be comfortable and we want them to be taken
care of. Each of them holds some of our family antiques -- meant to
be used and enjoyed, but not abused. This home is very much a labor
of love for us. We stay in each vacation home anywhere from 6 weeks
to 5 months a year, depending upon the house. We want our guests to
feel like they are using the vacation home of a friend.
4) Why do you ask for a check for your final payment?
To help us keep rental rates for you as low as possible. Otherwise, we
would have to raise rental rates to cover credit card processing fees.
5) Is Beachview a two story house? No. Beachview has a second story
attic and porch, but they are not accessible to renters.
6) What airports are nearby? info available on St.Simons page
7) How is Saint Simons connected to the mainland?
info available on St.Simons page
8) What about the pool across the street? Will it be open when I am there? Where else can I swim, other than the ocean?
As I write this (July 2006) there is a lovely public pool that is
cattycorner across the street from Beachview. The pool is directly on the
ocean, and it is open -- huge swimming areas and a kiddie pool. The cost is
currently is $4.00 per person for an all-day pass. However, this is run by
the Glynn County and hours and openings are subject to change. It is
usually open in the summers. There is a pool heater and a move has been
afoot to make the time for opening longer, but this is subject to the
decision of Glynn County. We can encourage them as much as everyone
else, but can make no guarantees as to the pool hours or operation of the
pool.
There are year round pool and workout facilities as well as massages the
St. Simons Health and Fitness Club.
They are located just under 3 miles from the cottage. They offer daily, weekly,
monthly rates and passes. Call them at (912) 638-5600 for current availability
and rates. Many guests of Beachview get passes to this center.
9) Where can I play tennis?
There are public tennis courts two blocks inland from the house in the park
(which are illuminated at night).
10) What is the beach like on the island?
info available on St.Simons page
11) Why is the house called Beachview House?
The house is one of the oldest cottages on Beachview Drive - perhaps the oldest.
The locals call the cottage Beachview House. The original family that
owned the cottage was Gramling, and the original cottage sign is in the
house. We bought it from a descendant of the original owners and restored
the house.
12) Can you see the water from the house?
Yes, you CAN see the water from the porches. Fourth of July night I sat
and watched the fireworks over the water on neighboring Jekyll Island
whilst sitting on our screened in porch -- I didn't have to move. One
afternoon, I took a phone call and sat on the rocker and watched the
wind kick up the white caps...It is beautiful... And yes, you can see
the water... BUT I want to make sure your expectations are on
target. The cottage is called Beachview House as it is the oldest cottage
on Beachview Drive. AND yes, there is a very lovely water view from the porches.
The house is not directly oceanfront, but is less than a block from the water.
The beaches in St. Simons are the most tidal on the South East Coast of the
United States, owing to its position off the Atlantic Bight. The location
has also given it incredible protection from hurricanes. I think the last
direct hit to the island was before my 72 years old mother was even born.
But the tides can vary 6-1/2 feet in height, so one lives and walks and plays
by the Tide Tables here. If you want to be able to sit on the porch and
watch the water and walk to town and walk to the park and be under huge
old live oaks trees in a restored 1892 cottage, than this is it.
However, if you are wanting to sit on the porch and see sand and water 10
feet below you, than no, it is not the right house. Our NC house IS just
DIRECTLY on a gorgeous beach that way. But it is not located on St.
Simons Island -- it is in North Carolina and called
Idyll-by-the-Sea Two.
It is a totally different house in a different environment and a different price
point.
